Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has an exciting opportunity in our Engineering department. We are looking for talented individuals with relevant skills and experience for a Control and Automation Technician which is based in Elgin. The Process Control Technician will be responsible for providing effective instrumentation and controls support to all CCBSA operations.
This will include debugging and troubleshooting automation and control systems, including PLC's, HMI's, servos and instrumentation. The PCT will also assist in creating drawings, including schematics, P&ID, and control panel designs.
The PCT will develop calibration procedures for process instruments as well as coach understanding of process controls and the troubleshooting thereof. The PCT will report to the Process Control Engineer and will assist in problem-solving, C&A asset management and enhancing operational performance.

1. Develop Documentation Standards
- Aid PCE and MSM in developing adequate procedures/standards, for review by Manufacturing and Engineering, leads, for the following:
-
- Backups
- Diagrams (P&IDs, Schematics, Network)
- Calibration
- Disaster recovery
- Business Continuity
2. Reduce C&A Downtime
- Optimisation of all control systems including utilities, processing and production lines by analysing downtime and engineering solutions.
- Ensure that all process control software is backed up and up to date according to set standards
- Coach, guide and assist technicians in breakdown situations if an escalation occurs.
- Analyse downtime for trends and proactively eliminate major causes
- Ensure the integrity and reliability of production systems software and hardware from PLC devices to ERP systems by monitoring maintenance, adherence to standards and effective problem-solving.
- Participate in the C&A community by enabling knowledge sharing and skill transfer Judgement and decision making
- Supports the intent of ensuring that the functional solution integrates into the broader CCBA template.
- Has joint accountability to ensure that Manufacturing Systems solutions are delivered on time, to budget and meet the requirements of the function.
- Has authority to execute changes in order to ensure manufacturing uptime is maintained without adversely affecting system integrity.
Skills, Experience & Education
Qualifications
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Light Current)

Knowledge and Experience
- At least 3 years as C&A or instrumentation technician.
- Specialised knowledge of Instrument and Control calibrations, configurations, maintenance, fault finding, installation standards, documentation standards and instrumentation protocols.
- Basic understanding of and experience with Wonderware Archestra and Intouch-based SCADA systems
- Experience in problem-solving methodology
- In-depth knowledge of PLCs hardware and software and industrial networking
- Good manufacturing and process understanding.
