This position works out of our Johannesburg location in the rapid diagnostics division. In this division our rapid diagnostics solutions are helping address some of the world’s greatest healthcare challenges. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories and clinics around the globe.
The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key heath and therapeutic areas, including infections disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.
As a service technician you will provide technical assistance to equipment users. You will be required to answer questions or resolve equipment problems for clients in person, via telephone or from remote location.

What You’ll Do
- Second line technical support
- Complete familiarization with the products in the Abbott portfolio
- Maintain Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (Pty) Ltd (South Africa) technical services culture, values and reputation with all clients and partners
- Provide feedback about service actions and improvement possibilities
- Assist with the establishment and growth of information base for Abbott Instruments marketed in the African Region
- Follow standards, policies, and procedures that govern all the functions of a technician within the Technical Services Department.
- Report to Abbott Healthcare’s Technical Service Manager on performance
- Effectively utilize all technical service department resources
- Maintain continuous performance levels
- Provide Technical assistance to equipment users. To answer questions or resolve equipment problems for clients in person, via telephone or from remote location
- Assist with the management of customer relationships and expectations with respect to PIMA – System support
- Maintain necessary documentation for quality systems such as ISO
- Responsible for all technical logistics related to device repairs.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Qualification /National diploma in Electrical, Clinical Engineering and/Biomedical
- MUST HAVE valid South African driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
- Typically, 1-3 years’ experience in related field.
- Pharmaceutical / Medical Device industry experience will be an advantage.
- PIMA- System support Skills.
- Basic Computer Skills.
- IMI Software Skills.
