Responsibilities

  • Act and drive courteously at all times ensuring fellow road users and customers have a positive experience of the company.
  • Develop with management a route schedule that is cost-efficient, optimal and productive to ensure delivery and collection duties are carried out timeously whilst maintaining contact with the office.
  • Load vehicle safely and responsibly by weight restrictions and capacity whilst ensuring that goods, and boxes are loaded and transported as per instruction markings/client’s instructions.
  • All loads to be fitted with corner plates, straps and ratchets, chains and satans before departure – under no circumstances can a load depart without strapping being completed.
  • Ensure the completion of required documentation, i.e. vehicle checklist, customer complaints, missed collections, mileage, delivery records and daily trip sheets.
  • Ensure Waybills and PODs are completed in full by the customer upon collection, i.e. signature, date and time, etc. in order to prevent delays in service delivery.
  • Assist with Customs Stops & Tailboard Inspections and collect Releases & Documents from Customs and Customers.
  • Ensure timely delivery of cargo to clients/customers.
  • Comply with all the laws of the road ensuring all safety regulations and precautions are taken to safeguard passenger’s other road user’s goods documentation and the vehicle and timeously report any accidents.
  • Maintain a professional image of the company and brand ensuring the vehicle is clean and presentable and that you are attired in the Schenker-issued uniform.
  • Ensure that all activities in the area of responsibility are compliant with company-specific regulations.
  • Collect cargo from clients in Namibia and South Africa – ensuring cargo is sufficiently tied down at collection point to ensure the safety of cargo on the route.
  • Understanding of routes within Johannesburg, Windhoek and the best routes between Windhoek and Johannesburg.
  • Drive the truck across the border, in a timely safe manner.
  • To be proactive at the border and do what the driver can to assist in getting through the relevant borders.
  • Using electronic devices for PODs
  • Sign for correct shipments and if there’s damages make an endorsement for it.
  • Take photos of damaged shipments.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is only stopped in safe locations i.e. pre-agreed stops on route and that at each stop the vehicle condition is inspected – no unauthorized deviation from route allowed.
  • No passengers allowed.

Qualifications

  • Matric/Grade 12/Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid Driver's license plus PDP and DG classification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Customs documentation.
