SPAR Kwazulu Natal, a division of The SPAR Group Ltd, is recruiting for a Transport Controller at its Distribution Centre to manage and lead the team whilst allocating and planning the fleet to service Retail thus ensuring that business objectives are met.
Job description
- Manage and control staff cost within budget including overtime.
- Evaluate and assess staff training needs and conduct induction with new recruits.
- Analyse and resolve staff, retailers, and driver complaints/queries.
- Monitor staff performance by ensuring adherence to procedures.
- Conduct visual inspection of vehicles with the driver upon return from the trip.
- Evaluate fleet performance for maintenance purposes.
- Monitor OBC system (speeding, harsh braking, stopping, deviation from route etc).
- Ensure adherence to agreed departure times, arrival, and turnaround time targets.
- Process staff payment on the system timeously.
- Ensure all delivery documents including claims are completed correctly and returned to D.C within the agreed deadlines.
- Conduct staff performance appraisals in line with the Company standard.
- Ensure drivers licenses and PRDP’s expiry dates are checked regularly.
- Complete incident and accident report.
- Attend/investigate incidents as per the SHEQX report within the agreed time frame.
- Monitor and adhere to agreed fleet service schedules.
- Conduct weekly team meetings and manage staff attendance.
- Conduct presentations when required and compile minutes of meetings.
- Administer grievances and disciplinary procedures when required.

Minimum requirements
- Matric certificate
- A tertiary qualification in Transport/Logistics advantageous
- Ability to work under pressure and flexibility to work shifts and overtime when required.
- Sound leadership, people management skills and customer service orientation.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good planning and problem-solving skills
- 3 years of Warehouse experience, and code 14 license and PRDP advantageous
- Own transport essential
- SAP knowledge
- Computer literacy essential
