Assistant Food Services Manager - SPAR Stone Square

SPAR Stone Square is recruiting for an Assistant Food Services Manager (based in Stellenbosch - Cape Town) to assist the Store Manager in the day-to-day management tasks of running the food service departments to the required store standards.

Job description

• Able to run a shift and take responsibility for running the food service departments and overseeing the remaining store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Manage the bakery staff, the kitchen staff and service counter staff.
• Ensure bakery and kitchen production to planned schedules – baked goods and daily meal offerings.
• Experience in Menu Planning and costing will be required.
• Staff management and training – able to impart skills and empower staff.
• Oversee ingredient orders and manage the purchase budget.
• Manage weekly and year-end stock takes.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety and obtain a minimum audit score of 95% across the food service departments.
• Implement proactive and corrective action based on food safety standards and audits.
• Adhoc admin duties.
• Shift and weekend work is required.

Minimum requirements

• Proven management experience and a disciplined and consistent staff management ability.
• 5 years of previous experience in a catering service and/or an industrial/commercial kitchen is essential.
• Grade 12 is required.
• Culinary qualification is advantageous.
• Good client liaison and interpersonal skills.
• Strong admin and computer skills (Excel, Outlook, World Wide Web).
• Must be able to work independently.
• Own transport and a valid driver’s license.
• Be a neat and well-organized person.
• Attention to detail.
• A passion for food and service.
• Ability to communicate in English and Afrikaans.
